Category:Movies
Genre: Action & Adventure
Cast: James McAvoy, Morgan Freeman, Terence Stamp, Thomas Kretschmann and Angelina Jolie
Directed by: Timur Bekmambetov
Story by: Michael Brandt & Derek Haas
Based on the Series of Comic Book by: Mark Millar and J.G. Jones

Based upon Mark Millar's explosive graphic novel series and helmed by stunning visualist director Timur Bekmambetov—creator of the most successful Russian film franchise in history, the Night Watch series—Wanted tells the tale of one apathetic nobody's transformation into an unparalleled enforcer of justice. In 2008, the world will be introduced to a hero for a new generation: Wesley Gibson.

25-year-old Wes (James McAvoy) was the most disaffected, cube-dwelling drone the planet had ever known. His boss chewed him out hourly, his girlfriend ignored him routinely and his life plodded on interminably. Everyone was certain this disengaged slacker would amount to nothing. There was little else for Wes to do but wile away the days and die in his slow, clock-punching rut.

Until he met a woman named Fox (Angelina Jolie).

After his estranged father is murdered, the deadly sexy Fox recruits Wes into the Fraternity, a secret society that trains Wes to avenge his dad's death by unlocking his dormant powers. As she teaches him how to develop lightning-quick reflexes and phenomenal agility, Wes discovers this team lives by an ancient, unbreakable code: carry out the death orders given by fate itself.

With wickedly brilliant tutors—including the Fraternity's enigmatic leader, Sloan (Morgan Freeman)—Wes grows to enjoy all the strength he ever wanted. But, slowly, he begins to realize there is more to his dangerous associates than meets the eye. And as he wavers between newfound heroism and vengeance, Wes will come to learn what no one could ever teach him: he alone controls his destiny.

Genre: Biographies & Memoirs
Author:Janine Latus
In April 2002, Janine Latus's youngest sister, Amy, wrote a note and taped it to the inside of her desk drawer. Today Ron Ball and I are romantically involved, it read, but I fear I have placed myself at risk in a variety of ways. Based on his criminal past, writing this out just seems like the smart thing to do. If I am missing or dead this obviously has not protected me...

That same spring Janine Latus was struggling to leave her marriage -- a marriage to a handsome and successful man. A marriage others emulated. A marriage in which she felt she could do nothing right and everything wrong. A marriage in which she felt afraid, controlled, inadequate, and trapped.

Ten weeks later, Janine Latus had left her marriage. She was on a business trip to the East Coast, savoring her freedom, attending a work conference, when she received a call from her sister Jane asking if she'd heard from Amy. Immediately, Janine's blood ran cold. Amy was missing.

Helicopters went up and search dogs went out. Coworkers and neighbors and family members plastered missing posters with Amy's picture across the county. It took more than two weeks to find Amy's body, wrapped in a tarpaulin and buried at a building site. It took nearly two years before her killer, her former boyfriend Ron Ball, was sentenced for her murder.

Amy died in silent fear and pain. Haunted by this, Janine Latus turned her journalistic eye inward. How, she wondered, did two seemingly well-adjusted, successful women end up in strings of physically or emotionally abusive relationships with men? If I Am Missing or Dead is a heart-wrenching journey of discovery as Janine Latus traces the roots of her own -- and her sister's -- victimization with unflinching candor.

I read this book in less than 12 hrs, I can't put it down !!!!!

Honestly, I don't see myself in this book but I learned a lot from it, how vulnerable we are as a woman and how loneliness sometimes made us do the unthinkable.

Great Memoirs ; goodbye Amy.

He opened the concert with ‘Give Me Some Love’ ... all of us were dancing the night away totally entertained by him. Between each song he changed his guitar or move to the piano, jamming with the band member .. even climbed up to one set of speakers and jump down ... pheewww, crazy guy !!!

I'm sooooo HAPPY that I could watch him performing live here in Jakarta, thanks to my Hubby & Ariel. Thoughtful idea for Mother's Day gift, it was an hour and a half pure indulgence (^_^)

Artist:Chris Botti
Christopher Stephen Botti or Chris Botti [BOH-tee] (born October 12, 1962) is an American trumpeter and composer. Born in Portland, Oregon and raised in Corvallis, Oregon, he spent two years of his childhood growing up in Italy. His earliest musical influence was his mother, a classically trained pianist and part-time piano teacher.

He plays a Martin Committee Handcraft trumpet made in 1940, and uses a 3 silver plated mouthpiece from Bach made in 1926, having recently retired his 1920 3C Bach mouthpiece. He counts Miles Davis among his influences.

I haven't heard about him until 2 days before his Live performance in Shangri-La Jakarta, then I'm hooked. I could listen to his album "Italia" day in day out. He is also a very nice guy in person.

I LOVE this album ! Among all the song my favorite are "The very thought of You" featuring Paula Cole, "The Way you Look Tonight" (my all time song fave - ever), "Ave Maria" and of course .. "Italia", featuring Andrea Bocelli.

A very memorable evening, thank you Miki.

* December (2002)

* To Love Again (2005)
* Italia (2007)

PS. He was named one of People Magazine's 50 Most Beautiful People of 2004.

PPS. To date, Botti has released ten solo albums. His first few releases could safely be classified as smooth jazz, though critic Alex Henderson argues that Botti's music was a cut above much of the genre; reviewing his 1999 album, Slowing Down the World, Henderson writes "it would be a major mistake to lump it in with the outright elevator muzak that Kenny G, Dave Koz, Najee, and Richard Elliot were known for ... Botti is capable of a lot more."[1] Though still featuring heavy contributions from pop music singers, Botti's more recent albums have found him exploring more traditional jazz territory, with lush orchestral arrangements earning comparisons to Gil Evans.[2]

Botti has also performed or recorded with artists such as Sting, Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Chaka Khan, Andrea Bocelli, Jill Scott, Steven Tyler, The Blue Nile, Josh Groban, Michael Bublé, Dave Koz, Jeff Lorber, David Torn, Roy Hargrove, Paul Simon, Rod Stewart, Clark Terry, Lee Ritenour, Renee Olstead, Burt Bacharach, Paula Cole and Brian Culbertson.

Botti was also a member of Bruford Levin Upper Extremities, a more experimental, jazz fusion-oriented group. He composed the score for the 1996 film Caught.

In 2006, Billy Childs, Gil Goldstein & Heitor Pereira won the Grammy for Best Instrumental Arrangement Accompanying Vocalist(s): "What Are You Doing The Rest Of Your Life?" (Chris Botti & Sting) from Botti's album To Love Again - The Duets.

On September 25, 2007, Botti released his new album, Italia. The album places focus on Botti's Italian roots through such songs as "Ave Maria", "Venice", "Estatè", and the title track "Italia." In December 2007, it was nominated for the Grammy Award for Best Pop Instrumental Album.

My friend Arfi is hosting this yummy event, to join the fun click here HomeMadeS: Announcing: Cupcakes Spectacular 2008!

I must admit that I have difficulties choosing which recipe to use & how I'm gonna dress - up my cupcakes for this event (me being the perfectionist .. tehee). Then its down to me today that I should use the recipe that I know by heart, hence I'm sharing my ultimate Chocolate Cupcakes recipe here (honestly, I bake this once a week for the family) then I'm using Chocolate whipped cream that both Ariel & Miguel love as the frosting .. huuurrrraaaayyyyy .. now we are ready !!!!

Photobucket

Ingredients:
Chocolate Cup Cakes :

100 gr unsalted butter, soften
75 gr caster sugar
100 gr self raising flour
2 eggs
2 tbsp cocoa powder
1/2 tsp instant coffee

Directions:
Combine all the ingredients in a large bowl and beat with an electric whisk until smooth (about 2 - 3 minutes)
Spoon the batter into the cases.
Bake for 18 - 20 minutes
Remove tins from the ovens and cool for 5 minutes
Then remove the cupcakes and cool on a wire rack.

*Store without icing in air tight container for up to 2 days.

Chocolate Frosting:
1 tbsp cocoa powder
2 tbsp icing sugar
175 ml whipping cream
1 tsp vanilla essence
1/2 tsp orange essence

To make the frosting:
Sieve the cocoa and icing sugar together into a medium bowl.
Add the cream, vanilla and orange essence.
Beat until soft, but the cream should still hold it's shape.
Spoon over the cupcakes, add crystal sugar if you like.

PS. My daughter will lick-up all the sugar first, then the frosting and eat the cake last .. very predictable *winks*

Genre: Biographies & Memoirs
Author:Patricia Volk
Patricia Volk's enchanting memoir nails both 20th-century American life and the glorious eccentricities of her relatives with the gift for vivid detail of a fiction writer. (After all, she's published one novel and two short-story collections.) "Our hallway was the color of ballpark mustard. The living room was cocoa, my mother's wall-to-wall, iceberg green," she tells us. Volk begins with her adored immediate family: charismatic father, hypercritical but loving mother ("Mom made me, and now she will make me better"), and older sister Jo Ann, best friend and occasional mortal enemy. But they're only the beginning, just as the garment-district restaurant that rules her father's life is only one of the family achievements. Great-grandfather Sussman brought pastrami to the New World. Grandfather Jake, a demolition expert, was profiled in The New Yorker. "Everybody did one thing better than anybody else. Aunt Gertie sang the works of Victor Herbert. Aunt Ruthie mamboed. Granny Ethel braked with such finesse it was impossible to tell the moment the car went from moving to a stop." Of course, perennially negative Aunt Lil embroidered a pillow with the motto "I've Never Forgotten a Rotten Thing Anyone Has Done to Me"--but maybe she was embittered by the fact that Uncle Al slept with her for 11 years then refused to marry her because she wasn't a virgin. (She sent out wedding invitations anyway, and he fell in line.) All these great stories are arranged along a casual chronological arc ("from Sussman Volk in 1888 to Cecil Volk in 1988"), but nothing is ever really finished. Her father closes Morgen's in Manhattan; her sister's husband opens a trendy food shop in Florida. "We're still feeding people," Volk asserts.

The Author is brilliant, she's writing down her family journey (and herself) in a wonderful memoir. Every time she mentioned food (from liverwurst, spaetzle, sturgeon, cucumber salad to herseyettes) I do get hungry reading it (*smile*) made me wanting to have restaurant family too !!! Not to mention hidden Mattie's chocolate cake recipe inside the book, a little treasure, I will for sure give it a try.

Normally, I'm against spoiler but for this particular book I want to share my favorite part of the book with all of you :

" Family is what we first know of the world. Family IS the world, your very own living microcosm of humanity, with its heroes and victims and martyrs and failures, beauties and gamblers, hawks and lovers, cowards and fakes, dreamers and steamrollers, and the people who quietly get the job done.

Every behavior in the world is there to watch at the dinner table. You study them. You learn. You see how they change and how they stay the same. But if you think you can really know them, you're missing the point. The point isn't how well you know somebody. The point is this : In a family you don't come from nowhere. You enter the world already part of something. The myths and behaviors are allthere to model yourself on our against. You are who you came from. There is no escape, but there is transmutation.

Family is become who you will be. It's through family you learn there are no limits on ideas, nothing is strange if it seems right, and if you believe in what you do, who cares what anybody else thinks. Knowing so much about them, how open hearted can you bear to be ? You were born with the chance to love them. You might as well. They're YOURS."

(taken from Boost - page 230)

I'm totally in agreement with her, this book is all about living and enjoying live with your loved one, great book indeed.

Jeannette Walls grew up with parents whose ideals and stubborn nonconformity were both their curse and their salvation. Rex and Rose Mary Walls had four children. In the beginning, they lived like nomads, moving among Southwest desert towns, camping in the mountains. Rex was a charismatic, brilliant man who, when sober, captured his children's imagination, teaching them physics, geology, and above all, how to embrace life fearlessly. Rose Mary, who painted and wrote and couldn't stand the responsibility of providing for her family, called herself an "excitement addict." Cooking a meal that would be consumed in fifteen minutes had no appeal when she could make a painting that might last forever.

Later, when the money ran out, or the romance of the wandering life faded, the Walls retreated to the dismal West Virginia mining town -- and the family -- Rex Walls had done everything he could to escape. He drank. He stole the grocery money and disappeared for days. As the dysfunction of the family escalated, Jeannette and her brother and sisters had to fend for themselves, supporting one another as they weathered their parents' betrayals and, finally, found the resources and will to leave home.

What is so astonishing about Jeannette Walls is not just that she had the guts and tenacity and intelligence to get out, but that she describes her parents with such deep affection and generosity. Hers is a story of triumph against all odds, but also a tender, moving tale of unconditional love in a family that despite its profound flaws gave her the fiery determination to carve out a successful life on her own terms.

*About Author*

For two decades, Jeannette Walls hid her roots. Now she tells her own story. A regular contributor to MSNBC.com, she lives in New York and Long Island and is married to the writer John Taylor.

Written & Directed By: Sylvester Stallone

Twenty years after the last film in the series, John Rambo (SYLVESTER STALLONE) has retreated to northern Thailand, where he's running a longboat on the Salween River. On the nearby Thai-Burma (Myanmar) border, the world's longest-running civil war, the Burmese-Karen conflict, rages into its 60th year. But Rambo, who lives a solitary, simple life in the mountains and jungles fishing and catching poisonous snakes to sell, has long given up fighting, even as medics, mercenaries, rebels and peace workers pass by on their way to the war-torn region.

That all changes when a group of human rights missionaries search out the "American river guide" John Rambo. When Sarah (JULIE BENZ) and Michael Bennett (PAUL SCHULZE) approach him, they explain that since last year's trek to the refugee camps, the Burmese military has laid landmines along the road, making it too dangerous for overland travel. They ask Rambo to guide them up the Salween and drop them off, so they can deliver medical supplies and food to the Karen tribe. After initially refusing to cross into Burma, Rambo takes them, dropping off Sarah, Michael and the aid workers...

Less than two weeks later, pastor Arthur Marsh (KEN HOWARD) finds Rambo and tells him the aid workers did not return and the embassies have not helped locate them. He tells Rambo he's mortgaged his home and raised money from his congregation to hire mercenaries to get the missionaries, who are being held captive by the Burmese army. Although the United States military trained him to be a lethal super soldier in Vietnam, decades later Rambo's reluctance for violence and conflict are palpable, his scars faded, yet visible. However, the lone warrior knows what he must do...

We watched it last night and after the first 15 minutes Miguel was looking at me shake his head then turn to his right ... fell asleep right away. Yes, it's a funny movie (hey, its Ben Stiller movie.. he is FUNNY !) but didn't tickle me in the right direction, in my opinion its kinda boring actually.. not enough sparks. My favorite part is whenever the Mariachi shows -up otherwise its a chicklit movie with a twist at the very end, therefore 3 stars from me.

A teaser video for you to enjoy .....
